Meet Lam Grace Touthang, the latest dancing sensation from Nagaland

DIMAPUR: 27-year-old Lam Grace Touthang from Kohima in Nagaland has entered the limelight after winning a top prize representing India in an online global dance competition - 'Global Dance Visual Competition' - under the solo category.

Touthang also got nominated for 'Best Cinematography' in the competition that was organized by the  makers of popular television show 'World of Dance' and World of Dance records.

Attributing her success to God, Touthang says, "I wasn’t expecting anything this time since there were so many amazing dancers competing but God is good! I am truly humbled and all glory to Him."

Touthang, who is a 'popping' and 'hip-hop' specialist, told InsideNE that she took part in the virtual competition, based on both dancing skills and choreography, because it has always been a dream of her's to be recognized for her dancing skills.

Somewhat surprisingly, the young dancer has not taken any dancing lessons. "Although I have taken part in a couple of workshops, I have learned mostly from videos on the internet and TV as well as some dance-themed movies."

Touthang says that she only started taking dancing seriously after she completed her graduation (in 2016). "Although I started my journey when I was very young, it only got serious in 2016 when I gave up my studies. I started making dance videos and uploading them on the internet."

During her early years, her capping achievement was a top-6 finish at the Indian Hip-Hip Championships representing Nagaland in Navi Mumbai.

Lam Grace Touthang is also the manager of the Nagaland Dance Fiesta who promotes dancing among the community in the state and also organizes events showcasing local talents.

Touthang has cited Lia Kim, Popping John, Matt Chad, Adam Sevani, and Kida The Great as her greatest inspirations.
