Meghalaya Chief Minister Meets Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina to Discuss Matters of "Mutual Interest"

Dhaka, November 7, 2019:

Conrad Sangma, the Chief Minister of Meghalaya, called on Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on November 7, and discussed matters of "mutual interest".

During his visit, the Chief Minister and his delegation have been exploring the possibilities of expanding trade and commerce between Bangladesh and Meghalaya.

The call came amid the 20-member Meghalaya delegation's visit to the neighboring country, which will last 5th November to 8th November. The 20-member delegation comprises cabinet members, entrepreneurs, tour operators.

"Individuals are taking initiative at their own level, tour operators are taking initiative at their own level, coal and limestone traders are meeting each other, farmers and traders are meeting each other but there was not a systematic or organized way the Government was facilitating on both sides to make the connection better. We want to give the entire industry, the sectors, the movement and trade that are already taking place a better and formal structure and facilitate wherever necessary", Conrad has said.

Earlier, the delegation paid tribute to U Tirot Sing Syiem, one of the most revered freedom fighters of Meghalaya, at the Old Central Dhaka Jail, in the Bangladesh capital.

During the same visit, the Chief Minister and his associates also paid their respects to the father of the Nation of Bangladesh, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
