SHILLONG: The Meghalaya government on Wednesday announced that the much-awaited entry point at Umling, Ri-Bhoi district will be inaugurated by the Chief Minister of the state Conrad Sangma on December 16.

CM Sangma informed the media about the inauguration day after meeting the Governor, Satya Pal Malik on Wednesday evening.

According to reports, the pre-fab structure has been constructed at Umling, Ri-Bhoi District to check the entry of the ‘outsiders’  entering the state.

The Meghalaya Chief Minister also informed that the first direct flight from New Delhi to Shillong will take off on December 21.

“The airlines have confirmed and we are hopeful that the flight will start on December 21. We will have another flight on December 23. We will then ensure that at least once or up-to twice a week flights from Delhi to Shillong will be operational,” he informed.

Sangma informed that the flight which is likely to be operational from Delhi will be a 72-seater aircraft.

Meghalaya shall reopen its doors to tourists on December 21 after a long period of shutdown to contain the COVID-190 outbreak in the state.

Informing about the development earlier today via Twitter, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma also released a cinematic video on the platform showing the state in its absolute and complete glory.

Meanwhile, the State’s Tourism Department has issued a set of SOPs for tourists who will be visiting the state after the COVID-19 induced lockdown.

As per the new SOPs, it has been made mandatory for all the tourists to register on the Meghalaya Tourism App and generate an e-invite for the proposed itinerary.
