SHILLONG: The East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner, Isawanda Laloo, was reportedly defamed with the use of unparliamentary language by some miscreants.

Reportedly, the incident was a reaction to DC's recent orders for urging people to get the COVID jab. The East Khasi Hills district administration issued an order for a partial reopening of the Iewduh market from June 18 provided the shopkeepers and vendors are vaccinated.

The order created an outrage among certain sections of the community asserting that vaccination should be voluntary and cannot be enforced.

Local NGOs and political parties too protested emphasizing that the government doesn't have the right to force someone to take the COVID vaccination.

According to a report, the youth wing of the Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement demanded the withdrawal of the vaccination order. Also, the Chief executive member of the East Khasi hills autonomous district council also said that vaccinations should be voluntary.

Condemning the act, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Saturday said, “Condemn the distasteful comments made on the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills district who has been executing her duties to the best of her ability to ensure the safety of all residents.”

“Supporting the administration that is tirelessly working through this pandemic is the least we can do as responsible citizens. Let us fight against this common enemy and support all those in the frontline”, added the Chief Minister.

Extending support to the decision of the DC, Journalist, and activist Patricia Mukhim said, “I stand with the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills on the aggressive Vaccination regime, do you?#StandWithDCEastKhasiHills#.
