Guwahati, March 16, 2020:

Organized by Natventure, the marathon saw the participation of as many as 200 runners from Assam and Meghalaya. The marathon surprisingly saw a huge participation of sprinters amid the fear of possible outbreak of coronavirus in the State.

Darishisha Iangjuh and Sonrah Lyngkhoi, both from Meghalaya, were winners in the Female 21 km and 42 km categories respectively. The second and third spots in the 42 km were occupied by Jonali Doley and Sagarika Bhagawati from Assam.

Dipamoni Deka and Gita Doley from Assam won 2nd and 3rd positions in the 21 km category among females. Kresstarjune Pathaw and Batsrang Sangma, both from Meghalaya won the male 21 km and 42 km categories respectively.

Assam's Sanidul Islam and Meghalaya's Dondorklant Kharbithai won the 2nd and 3rd places in 42km male category while Jomsingstar Ramsiej from Meghalaya and Naba Deka from Assam came 2nd and 3rd in the 21km Male category.

The organizers, Natventure had ensured adequate route support and other requirements of the Runners were also taken care of during the marathon. This was the first event of Natventure under its own banner. Earlier, the Guwahati-based organisation has facilitated marathons and cycling events for private corporate and government organisations.

It may be mentioned here that the Guwahati City Marathon is the first activity since the fear of coronavirus outbreak in Assam started doing the rounds. The State Government has adopted precautionary measures to prevent the outbreak.

In a latest move, it has announced that all the schools will remain closed till March 31. The gyms, swimming pools will also remain shut till March 29. Mass gatherings have also been prohibited.

Moreover, the Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has decided not to attend any public meeting till March 31, 2020 as a precautionary measure against the novel coronavirus situation.

The Chief Minister has also appealed the people of the State not to panic and urged them to maintain personal hygiene to keep themselves safe from this virus. The Chief Minister has also also appealed the conscious citizens of various societies to come forward and take steps for public awareness.

The Assam CM also took to Twitter to alert the people in the midst of the coronavirus outbreak. “Do not pay attention to rumours. In case of any doubt or query, please call the Helpline number for

The State has also ordered closure of all wildlife reserves, national parks, and sanctuaries of Assam from March 17 to March 29, 2020 in a bid to shield itself from the spread of the deadly novel coronavirus, which has crossed the century mark in the country.
