Meghalaya Govt Takes Initiative to Promote Monolith Heritage Site in South-West Khasi Hills

Meghalayan monoliths at Mawkyrduk in the Southern part of the Khasi Hills that are similar to the iconic ones at Stonehenge in the United Kingdom, are finally being promoted by the State's Tourism board. Now, the CM himself has informed that Meghalaya is taking measures to promote the heritage site to bolster tourism in the region.

The State's Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, reaching the site of the monoliths in the Southwest Khasi Hills that is being heavily promoted by the State's Tourism board. The CM said that the world must see that the kind of beauty that the site has and informed that the Government is now taking an initiative to develop as it has a lot of "heritage" to it. "As a Government we have decided to take this up and promote this area and promote this particular heritage site", the Chief Minister said.

Later, Sangma shared the videos on his official Twitter account along with the message, "At the Monolith Heritage site in Mawkyrduk, Meghalaya. Our monoliths are similar to the Stonehenge in the UK and are very symbolic to our culture. It is our aim to preserve our rich heritage and promote this magnificent wonder of Meghalaya!"

Meanwhile, to ensure Meghalaya scores high in the tourism circuit, the Tourism Department is also gearing up to host 'The Meghalayan Age', a nine-day extravaganza that will display the State's wealth of beauty in front of the world.
