Meghalaya Govt to announce decision on reopening schools after Nov 5

Shillong: With all eyes on the Meghalaya Government to see when it announces the resumption of regular classes in schools, Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui has said that a decision will be taken in this regard after November 5.

Speaking to Inside Northeast earlier today, Meghalaya Education Minister Rymbui said that a meeting is in progress wherein some important aspects are being discussed relating to the reopening of schools.

A meeting of the state’s education department and the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBoSE) has been convened where the officials will try to reach a consensus regarding the reopening of schools.

According to the Meghalaya Education minister, “consultations” with stakeholders – management committees, parents, teachers – is on at the moment.

Minister Rymbui also told scribes that whatever decision is taken, will be in the best interests of the students. He has also assured that all safety measures will be put in place to ensure there is no COVID outbreak in the state.

When asked about selection tests for class 10 students, Rymbui said that following the November 5 meeting, matters related to the issue will be discussed and a final decision will be taken.

As the Covid-19 cases are slowly declining in the country, several states allowed reopening of the schools from November 2, but there are some states which are yet to do so. Schools in Andhra Pradesh, Assam and Uttarakhand have opened schools with strict COVID-19 guidelines. Meanwhile, Haryana, Odisha, Tamil Nadu are planning to reopen educational institutes from November 16.
