SHILLONG: Meghalaya, still in the grip of the second wave of COVID-19 infections, has found a distraction from the deadly pandemic in the form of a good samaritan who has impressed netizens with a simple yet impactful deed of kindness.

The villager from Chimagre Songittal in the East Garo Hills district of the state did not go empty-handed to get his vaccination. The man took a bundle of maize from his own farm as a gift for the medical professionals.

His uncommon act of kindness has since gone viral and photos of the man are doing the rounds on social media.

"Kindness in the #pandemic. A person from Chimagre Songittal, #EastGaroHills District brought maize from his own plantation for the medical team who came all the way for #COVIDVaccination," the Meghalaya chief minister's office wrote about the gesture, alongside a picture of the now-famous farmer.

"Stories like this retain my faith in humanity," one user opined on the good deed, while another stated, "Kind hearted person... very simple and beloved people. I used to see this kind of gesture in my childhood times but it has become rare nowadays. I love this humanity of our people."
