Meghalaya Police's 'Anti Narcotics Drive' Yields Drugs Worth Over Rs 2 Crores

Shillong, September 29, 2019:

A special Anti Narcotics drive, conducted by the Meghalaya Police, has recovered drugs worth Rs 2 crore.

Continuing the ongoing efforts to curb the drug menace in the State in general and East

Jaintia Hills District in particular, the drive was conducted last night by a joint team of ANTF East Jaintia Hills, Khliehriat Police Station, Ladrymbai Out Post and Umkiang Patrol Post.

The Anti Narcotics exercise, which started at 8.00 pm on September 27 , concluded at around 2.00 pm the next day. During the exercise, several notable recoveries were made.

A fuel tanker, travelling from Imphal to Guwahati, was intercepted at Khliehriat Police Station and thorough checking was conducted. During checking, one yellow plastic gunny bag containing 1,02,000 Ya Ba/World is Yours tablets, weighing approximately 11 Kilograms, was recovered. Its market value is worth more than 2 crores.

In this connection, a case has been registered and investigation is going on. The driver and handyman of the tanker have been arrested.

At 12.25 am today, another night super bus, bearing registration number AS-01-E-2956, which was travelling from Silchar to Guwahati was intercepted at the Khliehriat Police Station.

During checking, three soap boxes containing 30.63 grams heroin was recovered from a bag belonging to a person. A case has been registered and investigation is going on. The person has been arrested but his name and particulars are not being disclosed in the interest of investigation.

Again, at 2.15 am today, one night super bus, bearing registration number AS-24-C-9998, was intercepted at Khliehriat Police Station and thorough checking was conducted. It was travelling from Silchar to Guwahati.

During checking, three soap boxes containing approximately 18 Kg Ganja

was recovered. In this connection, a case has been registered and all three persons have been arrested.
