SHILLONG: In view of the surge in cases of COVID -19 in the state, the Meghalaya government has decided to put lockdown-like restrictions in state capital Shillong, as well as two other towns – Jowai and Tura from May 1 to 10 to curve the COVID situation.
Containment measures will be effect from 5 am of May 1 till 5 pm of May 10.
This was informed by the state chief minister Conrad K Sangma on Twitter.

Speaking to media, Deputy chief minister, Prestone Tynsong said that during the 10 days period, public, political and religious gatherings will be prohibited, while weddings and funerals will be allowed only with regulations issued by the respective Dy Commissioners.
All sports events would be prohibited.
Except for those providing emergency services, all private offices will be closed, however, departments of the government that provide essential services are permitted.
All non-essential government offices would be closed and employees will be able to work from home.
From May 1, all educational institutes will be closed, but ongoing board exams will continue.

Except in emergency cases, inter-district travel is prohibited.
Only one-fourth of a commercial vehicle's capacity will be permitted, particularly for healthcare services and transporting people to vaccination clinics.
Hardware stores, electrical equipment, Banks, and financial facilities, post offices, and telegraph and telecommunications, all construction activities are permitted.
