Mexico grants 10 years visa to 'Forest Man of India' Jadav Payeng

‘Forest Man of India’ Jadav Payeng is all set to leave for Mexico this September to undertake a new mission of making Mexico greener.

GUWAHATI: ‘Forest Man of India’ Jadav Payeng is all set to leave for Mexico this September to undertake a new mission of making Mexico greener.

Reportedly, Payeng has been provided a Mexican visa for 10 years and he will be in the country for 3 months every year to work on his mission starting from September.

Congratulating Payeng. State environment and forest minister Parimal Suklabaidya said “I extend my heartiest congratulations to an extraordinary environmental activist from Assam, Padmashri Jadav Payeng for being invited by Mexico to replenish its forests”.

In December last year, an agreement was signed between Payeng and a Mexican NGO  Fundación Azteca for a collaboration involving environmental projects in the North American country. The mission aims to plant 7 million trees in Mexico.

Payeng, who single-handedly converted a barren landscape in Majuli in Assam’s Jorhat district into a beautiful forest, was honored with Padma Shri in the year 2015.

The title 'Forest Man of India' was conferred on him by Jawaharlal Nehru University in April 2012.
