SALAKATI: In an inhuman act reported from Kokrajhar district, a 56-year-old man allegedly raped a 16-year-old mute girl from a religious minority community.
More shockingly still, the incident took place in broad daylight on July 26.
The accused has been identified as Nagen Das, a resident of Palpara village under Chapar Police Station in Dhubri district of Assam. He is a fish seller by profession.
Locals said that Nagen often came to the village riding on his bicycle to sell fish door-to-door.
On July 26, Nagen entered the victim’s house, and taking advantage of the fact that no one was at home, he allegedly raped the minor girl.
The accused has admitted the crime and said that it was his “mistake.”
The locals caught the accused red-handed after he had committed the heinous crime, and informed the police and informed the police about the incident.
Based on the complaint filed by the victims’ family, a case has been registered against the accused at the Salakati Police Station.
Later Nagen has undertaken police custody for investigation.
According to reports, the victim was taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
The All Bodo Minority Student Union (ABMSU) central president Ashraful Islam and locals have called on police to take immediate action against the accused and to provide justice for the minor victim.
