IMPHAL: Olympic Silver medalist from Manipur Mirabai Chanu gets emotional while thanking truck drivers for their contribution in her successful journey in the field of sports
In a video that is doing rounds on social media, one can see the champion weightlifter extending gratitude to the truck drivers who used to provide her lifts to reach the Khuman Lampak for her practice sessions which was about 24 kms away from her home.
As a token of gratitude, Chanu invited the truck drivers at her residence to thank them.
“I don’t have any words to express my happiness and gratitude in front of you all, without your help I wouldn’t be able reach at this level, It was always my wish to see you all and express my gratitude .. today I am feeling so emotional and feel to cry while remembering those days”, said Chanu in the video.
With numb eyes and shaky voice, Chanu said added that”it’s all because of you all that I could reach timely for my practice”.
Chanu shared a unique bond with the truck drivers as they used to carry her to the stadium. Making her feel safe and secure, they never used to charge money from her.
She also presented them with a ‘khudai’, a traditional Manipuri shawl gifted to brothers.
“And I am able to achieve at this level.. I would like to thank you all and seek your blessing for my future..”, she further said while breaking down into tears.
Undoubtedly, Chanu has become the talk of the town for bringing glory to her state Manipur as well as the entire nation. She kick started the medal tally for India at the summer games.
After reaching her home from Tokyo, Chanu had said how she felt to be with her family after about a span of 2 years.
Further thanking her parents, the weightlifter wrote, “Thank you Ema and baba for all the sacrifices you made for me to reach at this level”.
She also shared some snapshots of her spending some quality time with her family. A myriad of medals and the trophies can also be seen in the background.
