The miscreants set ablaze a slaughter house at Doidam Tea Estate in Doom Dooma area of Tinsukia district on Saturday even as the police arrested a youth who had posted an offensive remark on Facebook which triggered a communal flare-up.

“The miscreants set ablaze the shed of a slaughter house. They attempted to set fire to another slaughter house but the police reached the spot on time and they fled,” Tinsukia Superintendent of Police Mugdhajyoti Mahanta told InsideNE.

The incident took place during a bandh in the district. The bandh had thrown life out of gear.

Meanwhile, one Aziz Khan, who had posted the offensive remark on Facebook, was arrested along with three others.

“We arrested Aziz Khan from Dikom (near Dibrugarh) last night. Three other persons were arrested in connection with the clash erupting over an altercation over the festivals of two communities,” Mahanta said.

He said the situation was by and large peaceful and police and paramilitary personnel were fanned out across vulnerable areas to thwart untoward incidents. “There is no communal tension now,” he said.
