AIZAWL: A Mizo girl serving with the Assam Rifles, Dimapur a medical attendant was found dead in the forest of Sokhuvi in Dimapur district, Nagaland on September 3.

As per sources, on September 2, 2021, Jones C. Malsawmkimi (22) had gone missing from the ARTC training centre where she was posted.

An FIR  regarding this was filed at Dimapur Police Station.

A search was launched, and her body was finally discovered in the forest several days later.

A postmortem was performed at the hospital, and her body was returned to her family in Lunglei, Mizoram on September 5, 2021.

According to sources, at least four people have been arrested in connection with the death of the Mizo girl.

However, the suspects stated that the victim died of a "drug overdose."

When Mizoram MLA K Pachhunga learned of the mysterious death and suspicion of a drug overdose, he immediately wrote to President Ram Nath Kovind, requesting his intervention in the death of a 20-year-old Mizo woman in Nagaland to ensure that justice is served to the victim.

In his letter to the President, the MLA has said that the victim was well known to him as she happened to be a close friend of his daughter and had no history of drug abuse.

He further mentioned that the forensic photos of her body indicated physical assault, which hinted at kidnap, rape, and murder rather than a case of a drug overdose.

He MLA added in his letter that “It is most unfortunate and also a cause for concern that armed female personnel met such a miserable end in the vicinity of where she was posted. This incident also speaks in volume about how unsafe the women are in our country."

Copies of the letter were also sent to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Defence Minister, Mizoram Governor, Chief Ministers of Mizoram and Nagaland, Chief of Army Staff, and Director General of Assam Rifles.
