It may be mentioned here that drug smuggling is one of the major concerns in Mizoram. Leaders and locals have often raised the demand for border fencing with neighboring Myanmar. According to them, the porous borders have facilitated the free-flow of illegal and anti-social activities in the state.
Recently, the Chakma body had demanded that the Mizoram border with neighboring Myanmar be sealed. The body had also submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging him to seal the borders with the neighboring country.
