Mizoram: 95-Year-Old Grandma Donates One Month's Pension & Sews Face Masks to Help Govt in COVID-19 Fight

Mizoram Chief Minister has been sharing stories about the State's citizens who have taken the pandemic in their stride and then doing all they can to contribute and support each other. The latest is that of a 95-year-old woman from Mizoram who just gave up her one month's pension to help Government combat Covid-19.

Pi Nghakliani, the 95-year-old grandma, has donated her one month's pension to Mizoram Chief Minister's Relief Fund and to add to her contribution to the State's preparedness to tackle the outbreak and limit the infection, she is sewing face masks.

The Mizoram grandmother is handing over the face masks she made to the ones in need. Chief Minister Zoramthanga took to Twitter to share her incredible story with netizens.

"Here is an incredible story of Pi Nghakliani (95) w/o Pu Lalrinliana (L) Ex-MLA; who's not just yet done with donating her 1- month pensioner's salary to the Chief Minister's RF, yet still sew face masks and handing them out to whoever needs it!

The 95-year-old, who is the wife of former Mizoram MLA Lalrinliana, has certainly put up smiles at everyone's faces in this gloomy coronavirus phase.

It may be mentioned here that this isn't the first time that Mizoram has come up with a positive attitude amid lockdown and coronavirus and economic slowdown. Earlier, the State had garnered much appreciation for its discipline during the Janata Curfew. It has also been reported that the people of the State are strictly following the lockdown rules.

Later, a 7-year-old boy from the State made headlines after he contributed his entire savings of Rs 333 to the CM in cash and coins.

FitMizoram program is another positive initiative that is aimed to keep the people fit amid the lockdown and closed fitness centres.

Employees of different offices under Human Resources Development (School Education, SCERT, MBSE) have also contributed a total amount of Rs. 128,63,000 for the ongoing fight against the rampant Covid-19 pandemic.

It may be mentioned here that Mizoram has begun testing of samples for coronavirus at Zoram Medical College (ZMC). According to reports, 14 nasopharyngeal swab of doctors, nurses and health workers, who are looking after the one COVID-19 infected patient and sample of a suspected patient (low risk) have been tested at the laboratory for the first time in the State.
