Aizawl, February 27, 2020:

The alliance of the Zoramthanga-led Mizo National Front (MNF) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) seems to be at risk after Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga made a statement about “ideological differences” with its partner.

“Religious freedom” has become the subject of difference in opinions of the two North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) partners. The State BJP president, Vanlalhmuaka asked the MNF to step out of the NEDA if there are “ideological differences” with the BJP.

While speaking with Inside Northeast, Vanlalhmuaka said, “I am directing the MNF president and state Chief Minister Zoramthanga since he has given a very wrong statement in the Mizoram State Assembly House. He is telling that BJP is not good for the Christians and it is not good for the Mizos. Now what is this? He is part and parcel of NEDA. He is a constituent member. If he does not feel comfortable with the BJP, he must leave the NEDA immediately.”

“Religious Freedom was raised by the Opposition CLP leaders that the BJP govt at the centre should be given the task of interfering with religious freedom. But as far as my opinion is concerned, I have not found any concern in the surrounding area. If anyone finds that the BJP is doing something wrong for the Christian people, let them first submit it to the Home Ministry. Action will be then taken immediately.”

Meanwhile, MNF leader Lalzamlova responding to the BJP remarks said that the MNF and BJP were two different political parties with their own ideologies and principle.
