Aizawl, May 30, 2019:

Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga will not be attending the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi that is scheduled to be held at the Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi on Thursday in the presence of at least 8,000 people.

The president of the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) party Zoramthanga won’t be able to attend the oath-taking ceremony due to "tight official engagements", as informed by personal secretary to the chief minister, Lalhmansanga.

Meanwhile, newly elected MP C Lalrosanga, State Information and Public Relations Minister, Lalruatkima, and former two-time Lok Sabha member Vanlalzawma will be in attendance to watch Narendra Modi being sworn in as Prime Minister for a second time on behalf of CM Zoramthanga.

It is to be mentioned that the Mizoram Chief Minister also did not attend the oath-taking ceremony of Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu and his council of ministers.

The oath-taking ceremony of CM Pema Khandu was held on Wednesday in the presence of the Chief Ministers of Assam, Nagaland, Tripura, Meghalaya, and Manipur.

Although the reason for not attending the ceremony was claimed to be the same "tight official engagements", Zoramthanga has threatened to walk out of the NEDA Alliance in the past. During the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill fracas, Zoramthanga also accompanied Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma to New Delhi to demand the scrapping of the proposed Bill.
