Mizoram records one more COVID-19 death, 7 fresh positive cases

AIZAWL: Another person succumbed to COVID-19 in Mizoram taking the death toll to 12. The 34-year-victim died at the Zoram Medical College (ZMC) here today.

On the other hand, the state recorded seven fresh COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours. With this, the total caseload mounted to 4619.

The newly affected include two boys aged 3 and 13, and a 63-year-old woman.

The state now has 143 active cases, while 4464 people have recovered from the disease.

The Mizoram government on Friday directed closure of schools for students of Class VIII and below in view of the surge in COVID-19 cases in the state.

According to the new guidelines issued by the state government, only online classes will be conducted for students of Class VIII and below as normal classes have been suspended with immediate effect.

However, the ongoing exams for Classes IX to XII will continue till they are completed.

The proposed opening of schools for the new academic session 21-22 on May 4 too has been cancelled or reversed until further orders.

This covers all schools, including those under the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

Schools for students of Classes V to VIII reopened on March 1 and Classes III and IV on April 1 after a dip in COVID-19 cases.
