AIZAWL: Mizoram’s COVID-19 caseload has climbed up to 8035 after as many as 240 people tested positive for the novel Coronavirus in the past 24 hours, the highest single-day spike of the year so far.

On the other one person had died due to the infection, taking the death toll to 23.

52 Assam Riffles, BSF, and BRTF who returned from outside the state are among the fresh positive cases.

A total of 6002 people infected with the virus have so far been recovered.

The state's active cases tally rose up to 2010.

Of the total active cases, the state capital Aizawl has topped with 1428 active cases.

After the state, Deputy chief minister Tawnluia tested positive for COVID-19, the state power and electricity minister R Lalzirliana yesterday tested positive for the infection.

As per the report, the 71 years old and his wife were diagnosed with COVID-19 through Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) yesterday.

He had tested positive after having mild symptoms.

So far, four legislators from the Mizoram government have been infected with COVID-19.

Earlier Dr Vanlaltanpuia, chairman of Mizoram Youth Commission (MYC), and Dr BD Chakma, BJP MLA was infected with the virus but have recovered from the infection.
