Mizoram becomes second worst COVID hit state in Northeast after Assam, put villages at risk

AIZAWL: Dr. R Lalthangliana, State health minister of Mizoram, has informed yesterday that Mizoram became the second-highest worst COVID-19 hit state of Northeast India right behind Assam.

Mizoram was quite unbothered from the first wave of COVID-19 pandemic is even now facing a critical condition even with providing facility to the patients.

Lalthangliana also informed that the state had the lowest COVID-19 infection cases till March 2021.

In the present scenario, the community spread of the virus in Mizoram is so alarming that not even the villages are safe, admitted the health minister.

Over the past 24 hours, the state had registered 238 new COVID-19 positive cases.

With this, the total caseload surged to 6,794 and currently has 1609 active cases. The death toll is stable at 17.

Lalthangliana the people to respect the lockdown guidelines, social distancing and other COVID-19 protocols to contain the spread of the virus.

The lockdown enforced in the state to continue until May 11.
