AIZAWL: Amid the ongoing Assam-Mizoram border disputes and so-called 'economic-blockade' by Assam, the Mizoram government has urged the authorities of the neighbouring state to provide security escort to stranded vehicles plying for Mizoram.

In a letter to his counterpart in Cachar disrict of Assam, H Lalthlangliana, Deputy Commissioner  of Kolasib district in Mizoram wrote, "It has come to my notice that several trucks carrying essential commodities and other passenger vehicles that are plying for Mizoram have been stranded within your jurisdiction".

He also requested his counterpart to provide Police escort to these vehicles within the jurisdiction of Cachar/Hailkandi so that these vehicles could safely reach their destination.

"Full safety to all vehicles coming to Mizoram is assured by the Government of Mizoram as stated before", added the Kolasib DC.

The Kolasib DC further wrote to the Silchar Truck Drivers Association confirming that the situation within the state of Mizoram is peaceful.

"We welcome all vehicles coming to Mizoram. I therefore assure you full safety to all vehicles (Essential Commodities and passenger vehicles) coming to Mizoram".

The Deputy Commissioner also had a telephonic conversation with the leaders of Silchar Truck Drivers Association. Followed by the conversation, he wrote to the President of the Association wherein he assured that the situation within the state of Mizoram is peaceful.

To ensure further safety of the vehicles and drivers, the DC has also provided phone numbers of concerned officers to be contacted in case of any issues faced.

Mizoram is reportedly hit by crisis of food and fuel as the state continue to bring essential commodities from Tripura and Manipur due to the alleged ‘economic blockade’ by Assam on NH 306.
