AIZAWL: The number of people infected with COVID-19 in Mizoram has risen to 7,551, with 169 new cases of the novel Coronavirus reported in the last 24 hours.

Of the total 169 new cases, Aizawl district is on top with 105 cases while 11 cases were reported from Lunglei, 12 cases each from Siaha and Kolasib, 10 in Saitual, eight from Khawzawl, seven from Serchhip, and four cases were reported from Mamit district.

12 police officials who returned from election duty in West Bengal are among the fresh positive cases.

According to reports, 52 patients had a travel history, while the others contracted the infection locally.

The state's death toll is 17, while a total of 5583 COVID positive patients have so far been recovered from the infection till date. The recovery rate of the state is 73.94 per cent.

Mizoram currently has 1951 active COVID cases.

Among the total active cases, Aizawl alone have 1368 active cases, followed by Lunglel (93), Lawngtlal (58), Mamit (56), Slaha (53), Khawzawl with 17 cases.

In the last 24 hours, at least 2,667 samples were screened, resulting a 6.37 percent infection rate.
