GUWAHATI: The All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary and former Union Minister Mukul Wasnik today held a press meet in Guwahati on the 'sale' of India’s Assets by the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) government.

Addressing the media, Wasnik said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi never fails to say that from 1946 to 2014, no progress or work was done. He also said Congress has done nothing in the last 70 years.

Adding "PM Modi behaves as if he is a great economist," Wasnik said PM Modi tries to say that progress can be seen in the country only after May 2014.

Wasnik claims that Under Modi's rule, there is more unemployment than has been seen in the last 45 years.

He also spoke about the recently announced Rs 6 lakh crore National Monetisation Pipeline (NMP) that initiative will seek to unlock value in infrastructure assets ranging from power to roads and railways.

Earlier, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said NMP estimates a total monetisation potential of 6 lakh crores through central government core assets over a four-year period from FY 2022 to FY 2025.

Wasnik said the Modi government's NMP scheme was made in complete secrecy.

India constructed these properties with millions of rupees from the common man and the Modi government trick to hand over these properties to its friends.

Despite this, the Parliament has not raised any questions about it, which is very unfortunate, according to Wasnik.

Wasnik asked, "Is the Government of India is the owner of the private sector enterprises which they are going to put on sale?"

"The answer would be no. These belong to the people of India," he added.

He stated that with this NMP, there will be only monopoly or duopoly, and nothing else and accused the Modi-led government of selling off all these national assets to his some specific 'mitron' (friends).
