PM Modi, French President discusses on Indo-Pacific and Afghanistan crisis

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emanuel Macron today had a discussion via telephone on the Indo-pacific region, to keep the region stable with closer collaboration between India and France.

Both the head of their respective states also had a detailed discussion on Afghanistan.

According to French Ambassador Emmanuel Lenain Bothe the leaders agreed to act jointly with Europe in Indo-Pacific, to keep the region stable and free of hegemony.

France reiterated its commitment to enhancing India's strategic autonomy.

They also talked about the situation in Afghanistan and agreed to coordinate ahead of multilateral summits like the G20 and COP26.

Moreover, President Emmanuel Macron praised India's decision to resume vaccine exports to COVAX.

Taking to Twitter PM Modi wrote,  “ Spoke with my friend President @EmmanuelMacron on the situation in Afghanistan. We also discussed closer collaboration between India and France in the Indo-Pacific. We place great value on our Strategic Partnership with France, including in the UNSC.”

France who had a recent fallout with Australia and the USA after Australia’s cancellation of the 40 billion French submarine order looks to strengthen its ties with India to become a major player in the Indo-Pacific region.
