GUWAHATI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today stressed on growth, development and connectivity of Assam along with the entire Northeast to make the region a strong pillar of his much-hyped Aatmanirbhar Bharat concept.

After launching the Mahabahu-Brahmaputra programme and laying the foundation for two bridges in Assam, Modi said growth, development and connectivity of the region is the priority of the Centre and his government was working tirelessly on it.

He lamented that not much to improve connectivity on the Brahmaputra was done previously due to which connectivity in the Northeast has always been a major challenge. He said now the projects are fast-tracked to reduce distances geographically and culturally of the region.

He further stated that over the recent years, physical and cultural integrity of the whole Northeast, including Assam, has been strengthened.

During the tenure of former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee, growth and progress in the Northeast had gained momentum and the present government has further enhanced the momentum, he added.

The prime minister lauded Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal and his government to work to achieve this.
