London, June 23, 2019:

India somehow managed to defeat 'minnows' Afghanistan by the skin of their teeth on Saturday despite posting a paltry total of 224/8, with skipper Virat Kohli once again leading from the front with a fighting knock of 67(63) as wickets continued to tumble at the other end. India won the thrilling encounter by 11 runs, but the standout performer of the match was no doubt Mohammad Shami, who became only the second Indian bowler to take a World Cup hat-trick on Saturday after Chetan’s Sharma feat in 1987.

In a remarkable display of skill and control, Shami held his nerves to defend 16 runs in the final over of India’s match against Afghanistan.

Although Shami's first ball was dispatched for a boundary, he rebounded with a dot ball and then cleaned up the final three wickets -- Mohammad Nabi, Aftab Alam, and Mujeeb Ur Rahman in successive deliveries (two of them lethal yorkers) to guide India to their fourth victory in the tournament.

With this result, India continue their unbeaten streak in this edition of the cricket World Cup 2019.
