Guwahati (Assam), September 30, 2018:

Assam’s BJP MLA, Mrinal Saikia, on Sunday came down heavily on the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) as its leaders met Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and ‎Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray to mobilize support against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.

Saikia said the AGP leaders had gone to wash off the sins the party committed during its ten years in power.

“The AGP is staging a drama. Why should they go outside the state to drum up support against the Citizenship Bill? They committed many sins, including secret killings. They are now busy expiating,” Saikia said.

He also said that the AGP emotionally took part in the Assam Agitation. The fact, however, is it is not the AGP but the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) which had spearheaded the agitation. The entire AASU top brass had joined the AGP at the end of the agitation. The AGP was born out of the movement.
