SHILLONG: Former Chief Minister of Meghalaya and Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma Thursday slammed the Meghalaya government for the recent law and order situation crisis in the state.

Talking to reporters in Shillong, Sangma said that all these, while the Conrad Sangma led NDA government in Meghalaya, was in deep slumber and completely ignored the deteriorating law and order situation of the state.

“Today we have a government but not governance. We are surprised to see how the government tends to create a perceived vacuum. Someone is refusing to act.” He said.

Sangma also attacked the Meghalaya government on the fact that it is yet to declare whether it has given the responsibility of the Home Department to anyone else or not since the resignation of Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui four days ago.

“The government is trying to send a message that there is no Home Minister. We saw from the media that the Home Minister wants him to be relieved from the media. But we don’t know whether the CM has kept the portfolio with himself or has bestowed the responsibility to someone else. As of now, we know the portfolio has not been distributed to anyone else.”

Mukul Sangma also claimed that the government is refusing to act and wants to shrug off from responsibility.

“They (government) must take responsibility for everything including the failure to know that some subversive activities were going to happen including instances of IED blasts in the state,” said Mukul Sangma.
