Nalbari, October 1, 2019:

'Shanti Nibas' in Nalbari was home to Phatik Chandra Das, a 105-year-old man who passed away yesterday. The owner of 'Shanti Nibas' is Majibur Rahman, a prominent journalist from Assam.

The Muslim man, Majibur Rahman, recently made headlines when he performed the last rites of 105-year-old Das, who was Hindu. Pictures of the Rahman setting fire to Das' pyre soon blew across social media platforms, and netizens had laudatory words for Rahman for cutting across religious boundaries, at a time when communal tensions are at an all-time high in post-NRC Assam.

It may be mentioned here that the 105-year-old man Das was left all alone after his wife passed away. Soon after, his daughter sold off his land and he was subsequently taken to her in-laws' house. However, she soon abandoned her father due to his ailing health. Rahman sprang into action when he heard about this sad tale and immediately brought the centenarian to his old-age home, 'Shanti Niwas'.

Attesting to Rahman's magnanimity, a local said, "Mazibur has done what we are unable to. Today, everyone is fighting over religion, but his deed proves what humanity is".

"This is not the first time that he has done, he works for the society and is a great example for all", another local added.

Reacting to this heart-touching story on Facebook, social media user Afnur ali posted, "Dada salute to you, it is a great message for the ones who are trying to divide the society on religious lines."

This incident is a great example of humanity bridging the gap that religion has created in the minds of the people. This story proves that 'humanity' is indeed the greatest religion of them all. The nation certainly needs more examples like these that can unify the people in these times of great strife.
