MYANMAR: Military junta imposes ban on satellite TV; violators to end up in jail

NAYPYITAW: The Military Junta has imposed a ban on satellite television in Myanmar, days after it prohibited the internet.

Anyone found violating the rule, will be slapped with a fine of $320 and up to one year of imprisonment, the Military junta warned.

The Military junta alleged that "illegal organizations and news agencies" were broadcasting objectionable items through the satellite televisions which are threatening the state’s internal security.

Apart from the ban on news agencies, working journalists are also on target of the security forces.

As many as 71 journalists have been arrested in Myanmar so far, of which, 48 are still in detention.

Social media platforms are completely blocked in the country ever since the coup began on February 1 this year.

Just a few days ago, Kachin Independence Army (KIA) has shot down a Myanmar military helicopter gunship while their base was being attacked by the military junta.

Due to the ongoing clashes, almost 7000 ethnic Kachins have been displaced from Momauk area.
