AIZAWL: Following the announcement of a nationwide uprising by the National Unity Government (NUG) last week, a new clash between military junta forces and the NUG erupted in many places.

On September 10, a fierce gunfight erupted in Lungler Army Camp between the Myanmar military and members of the NUG; after a long battle, the Army Camp was taken over by opposition forces.

Fearing the wrath of the Military Junta, people from the surrounding area flee for their lives, seeking refuge in Mizoram, resulting in a surge of Refugees in the state.

Many Myanmar nationals are seeking refuge in Mizoram's bordering districts.

According to sources, the incident occurred last week after the Burmese government in exile, the National Unity Government, called for a countrywide uprising against the Myanmar military. B.Challianngura, Secretary of Tuipuiral Group Young Mizo Association, stated that 307 Myanmar nationals have sought refuge in the villages of Vaphai, Thekte, Khankawn, and Khawbung.

All have been quarantined in makeshift shelters and abandoned schools.

Champhai district administrations have also stated that approximately 1650 Myanmar nationals have been camping in Champhai district since the February military coup.

According to Lawngtlai district sources, following the September 10 incident, approximately 40 Myanmarese have taken refuge at Lungpher village, 20 at Tlangpui village, and a few are on their way to Pangkhua village and are expected to arrive by September 12 nightfall.

Hnahthial district is also witnessing around 60 fresh influx of Myanmarese.

On September 10, sounds of gunfire and shelling between the Myanmar army and NUG members were heard from Mizoram's bordering Thingsai village.

The villagers also took several photos.
