Kokrajhar, September 22, 2019:

Kokrajhar's Lok Sabha MP Naba Kr. Sarania on Sunday formed his political party which is expected to be a strong contender in the upcoming Bodoland Territorial Area Council (BTAD) elections. The party, which has been christened the People's Protection Army (PPA), was officially launched in Assam's Pathsala today.

While speaking to Inside Northeast, Sarania said that the main motive behind the party's launch is to secure the rights of all the people living in the BTAD area. "Some of the issues have reached boiling point, and it is finally time to address them. For instance, many people living here have no land rights, no means of earning a living. Unless these people are given a political voice, their concerns will never reach Dispur", Sarania divulged.

"There have also been murmurs of an ethnic cleansing of non-Bodos living in these areas. They have no rights. Thus, this part will fight for their long desired rights", he added.

The Lok Sabha MP also spoke about the formation of a 20,000 strong 'BTAD Army' which will work at the grassroots level to strengthen the party's structure.

The BTAD elections will be contested in April of 2020.
