PATACHURKUCHI: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president J P Nadda today termed the Congress party as "communal" for forging a pre-poll alliance with Badruddin Ajmal-led All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF).

"In Kerala, you (Congress) are contesting with Muslim League. In Bengal, you are contesting with Abbas. In Assam, you are . Look at an instance of mental bankruptcy -- in 2006, Tarun Gogoi said -- who is Badruddin? In 2021, his son embraces him and says -- he is Badruddin," Nadda said, addressing a rally at Patacharkuchi constituency, where Assam BJP president Ranjeet Dass will contest the polls.

Doubling down on his attacks on the party, Nadda said that Congress has embraced Badruddin who has thrown the 'gamusa' away.

Terming Rahul Gandhi as a 'political tourist', Nadda added that Rahul Gandhi, who was shown standing in front of tea gardens, was actually not clicked in those pictures in Assam.

He also alleged that Congress Leaders Rahul Gandhi used other countries' tea gardens' photos as Assam's tea gardens. On the other hand, Priyanka Gandhi plucked tea leaves during off-seasons.

Without naming Priyanka Gandhi, Nadda said; "A political tourist was plucking tea leaves for photo ops. Do the tea leaves dry in March? It is actually plucked in the month of April."

They only come to Assam during election seasons. But Prime Minister Narendra Modi had visited more than 30 times in Assam State and every time he visited with schemes in various sectors.

Nadda further promised that if BJP comes to power, then BJP will look at the development of "traditional cultures" such as the indigenous dance form 'Hamjar.'

Elections to the 126-member Assam assembly are being held in three phases. The third and final phase for 40 seats will be held on April 6. The counting of votes is on May 2.
