Naga Hoho calls for cessation of Myanmar military operations against NSCN (K)

Kohimi, May 22, 2019:

The Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagalim (Khaplang) (NSCN-K) have been facing severe hardships ever since the Myanmar army launched operations against the Naga rebel group.

The Tatmadaw's ongoing crackdown against the NSCN (K) has triggered outrage among many groups in Nagaland, including the apex tribal group, the tribal Hohos.

The tribal body has decried the ongoing operations against Northeastern rebel groups including the Yung Aung faction of NSCN(K) have triggered outrage in Nagaland among certain groups.

Several tribal organisations in Nagaland have spoken up as civilians have been caught in the conflict and have appealed the Myanmar government to end the “hostilities”. The tribal organisation has further alleged that the offensive is coordinated by Indian security forces.

The Naga Hoho has urged both the Indian and the Myanmar armies to immediately cease hostilities “against the Nagas”.

The Naga Hoho has released a statement wherein they have stated that they are compelled to remind both the Indian and Myanmar governments that history has demonstrated that Nagas are courageous and bold enough to stand firm even in the face of overwhelming adversity. The tribal body further stated that it has also time and again been proven that the Naga issue could not be tackled militarily since it is a political issue.

The Hoho warned that continued action against the Nagas could culminate “Naga uprising” and urged the Governments to avoid that.

The Naga Hoho also warned that irrespective of border or factions, the Nagas will not be mute spectators when their rights are so "mindlessly trampled upon" and will collectively do everything in their power to protect their land and the lives of their own blood.

It urged the United Nations and the Myanmar government to take measures to bring about peace through dialogues.

Meanwhile, the Naga Students' Federation (NSF) has also demanded an end to the hostilities against the Nagas residing in Myanmar.
