Imphal, November 24,2019:

Co-ordination Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI), which has been continually protesting against the Centre for not disclosing the terms and agreements of the 'Naga peace talks' has been granted a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday.

A meeting has been planed between the Civil Society Organization leaders and Shah, and they will reportedly meet early in the morning at 10 am, to try and sort out the differences.

Following this, the Co-ordination Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) withdrew its decision to boycott the week-long Sangai Festival which got underway on Sunday. The COCOMI, however, has warned that the protests were not over.

It may be mentioned here that several organizations launched the protests under the banner of the COCOMI, with the demand of disclosure of the talks between the Government and major Naga rebel organization, Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagalim (Isaak-Muivah), as well as discussion of the talks in the Manipur Assembly.

It may be mentioned here that the Centre stated that it had reached an amicable understanding with the NSCN (IM). However, it was also informed that a 'final solution' to the protracted issue would only be reached after consulting stakeholders from neighboring states, including Manipur.

Meanwhile, there have been wide apprehensions in Manipur, with the CSOs launching sustained protests for being kept in the 'dark' in regards to the issue. Notably, the women of the historic Ima Keithel market also took to the streets in protest and demanded that the "territorial integrity" of Manipur should not be compromised at any cost.
