Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on August 13th, 2020 reiterated that the territorial integrity of Manipur will not be affected by the ongoing Indo-Naga peace talks.

Replying to queries on the sideline of Patriot's Day observation here in Imphal, the chief minister reminded that he along with CSOs from the state had earlier gone to the national capital, New Delhi, to meet the government where they were assured that the talks won't affect Manipur.

I can assure you all that the territorial integrity of Manipur will be intact and that we will all live together, the CM said.

Following reports that the Indo-Naga peace talks would be concluded in October 2109, apprehension had been created in the state. Following that report, CM Biren along with CSOs of the state had gone to Delhi to talk to the Central govt. Reports are again circulating that the peace talks could come to a final solution by September 2020. And this has, once again, created apprehension amongst the people of the state.

Meanwhile, the All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) has asserted that the proposed accord between the Centre and the NSCN-IM to resolve the decades-old Naga problem should not impact the territorial jurisdiction of Arunachal Pradesh.

The AAPSU’s statement came in the wake of media reports about the Prime Minister’s Office setting a September deadline for the culmination of the ongoing talks between the Central Government and the NSCN-IM.

The students’ body has categorically stated that any agreement between the Centre and the NSCN-IM should not affect Arunachal Pradesh and its people in any manner.

“The union is very much aware of the NSCN-IM’s vision of Nagalim or Greater Nagaland but there is no ‘Nagas’ in Arunachal Pradesh. We have always objected to their designs with vested interests. All tribes, including Nocte, Wanchos, Tutsas, Tangsas, etc., inhabiting the State are Arunachalees and Indians,” it said.
