Following the hoisting of the NSF Flag by Eno Ninoto Awomi, President of the student body, the Federation paid tributes to its fallen comrades by laying down wreaths upon the graves of the departed.

It may be mentioned here that Lt. Kekuojalie Sachü of Kohima Village and Lt. Vikhozo Yhoshü of Kigwema Village were gunned down while participating in a peaceful protest on March 20, 1986. They were participating at a rally called by the NSF to protest against the State Government’s decision of the introduction of IPS cadres in Nagaland and the extension of the Disturbed Area Act (DAA) from the 5 km belt to 20 km along the border of Myanmar, then Burma.

Besides NSF members, the commemoration ceremony was also attended by members from the Angami Students' Union (ASU), All Nagaland College Students' Union (ANCSU), and family members of the fallen heroes.
