Nagaland: Churches join hands with govt in fight against COVID-19

In an effort to help the Government fight the novel coronavirus, the Dimapur Ao Baptist Churches along with other Ao civil societies in Nagaland announced to sponsor the around 300 returnees who are quarantined at Government College quarantine centre Dimapur for 14 days.

“Responding to the state government’s appeal, we have come out to help the government in the fight against the COVID-19 which has infected over lakhs across the country,” Imti Jamir, secretary of Dimapur Ao Baptist Churches along with other Ao civil societies, said.

He further said, “It is our spiritual and social responsibility to share the burden of the government as well as our own Naga people in difficult and unprecedented times like today. Hence, we have decided to extend our combined voluntary effort in providing physical and spiritual food for 300 returnees in three quarantine centers located in Dimapur government college administrative block.”

Church council presents gifts to quarantined people

Meanwhile, the Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) on May 24th, 2020, gave gift packages to the inmates and frontline workers at the two quarantine centres in Kohima district.

The two state-run quarantine centers in K Badze and Meriema have been set up for those returning to the state from other parts of the country.

The gift pack, which was named 'Prayer Pack', consisted of a prayer letter from NBCC, its newsletter, Gideon Bible, face mask, besides basic needs such as toothbrush, paste, soap, toilet rolls, chocolates, biscuits and juice, among others. A team led by NBCC general secretary Rev Zelhou Keyho handed over the packages to the officials at the gate of the quarantine centers, while also offering prayer for their well-being.

Rev Keyho said at this time, since it is difficult to go and meet everyone in the quarantine centers, the NBCC prepared 850 'Prayer Pack' for each of our children in the quarantine centers and delivered to them. NBCC youth secretary Rev Vikuo Rhi informed that the council is also planning to give similar packages to some quarantine centers in Dimapur district.
