The Christian Institute of Health Science and Research (CIHSR), Nagaland, has suspended OPD services, emergency services, and new admission with effect from July 31st, 2020 after four staff have been detected COVID-19 positive.

However, critical services like Hemo-Dialysis, Chemo Radiation and I3SL -2 Laboratory will remain open.

“All the infected staff members have been promptly isolated and are all doing well. All contact tracing and testing has been initiated in line with the Government guidelines. The facilities concerned have been contained and decontamination being carried out. The facilities have also been inspected by the district health authorities,” the medical authority stated.

The COVID isolation ward has already been activated and is under very stringent control according to the standard guidelines. No patient inside the ward is allowed to contact with any other person in the hospital.

The medical authority further stated: “The staff in the ward use PPE according to standard guidelines and infection control measures. They do not come into contact with any other staff outside and are segregated from the rest of the hospital and so have no means to transmit any infection elsewhere.”

All biohazardous waste generated from the isolation ward are disposed of by incineration in the same manner as the BSL 2 lab.

Dr. Sedevi Angami, Director, said that stringent measures have been initiated to ensure that patients and the staff are protected from further infection spread. “Active surveillance is being conducted for all staff and patients and daily audits by the CIHSR rapid response team is being performed,” Angami added.
