Nagaland CM Rio Condemns Killing of Assam Rifles Jawans

Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has strongly condemned the attack on an Assam Rifles convoy which killed two AR jawans and seriously injured four others on Saturday.

Militants ambushed three Assam Rifles vehicles at Changlangshu village near Toub town in Mon district of Eastern Nagaland on Saturday.

Military sources said that a convoy of three vehicles of the 40 Assam Rifles unit, based in Tuensang district, was travelling from Tobu village to Ukha village in Mon district when they were intercepted by suspected NSCN (K) militants and fired upon at Changlangshu, leading to the death of two soldiers, including a junior commissioned officer, and injury to four others. The incident occurred at around 1:30 pm in the afternoon on Saturday.

It is suspected that the Aung Yung-led faction of the Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagalim-Khaplang (NSCN-K) is behind the attacks, but no militant organization has taken responsibility for the attacks so far.

Nagaland CM Neiphiu Rio to to micro-blogging platform Twitter to condemn the incident. He wrote that the reports of violence and attacks on security forces by unknown persons, in Mon district, is highly condemnable. He further conveyed his condolences to those who had been killed and wished speedy recovery for the injured. The Nagaland Chief Minister further appealed for peace from all sections.

It may be mentioned that alleged NSCN militants also gunned down sitting Arunachal MLA and National People's Party (NPP) candidate Tirong Aboh on 21 May 2019, in the Bogapani area of Arunachal's Tirap district. Aboh and his son were among eleven killed in the attacks.
