KOHIMA: The Nagaland government extended the ongoing lockdown in the state till June 30 on Wednesday.

Mmhonlumo Kikon, High Powered Committee (HPC) spokesperson said that the decision for extension of lockdown was taken even after witnessing a decline in the COVID-19 positivity rate in the state.

Kikon further added that even though the situation is improving the state is not out of danger yet. The positivity rate needs to be below 5%, he added.

Kikon also stressed that there is a need to vaccinate more than 50% of the population.

Speaking about lockdown, kikon said, " We acknowledge the inconvenience faced by the people but given the circumstances we have to continue with the lockdown for now".

He further said that respective DTF will work out the relaxation or restrictions required as per the local situation.

The state had earlier extended the lockdown till June 18.

The state so far has recorded 23854 cases of COVID-19 with 2972 active cases.
