Kohima, April 4, 2019:

Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) President K Therie has welcomed a team of former National People's Party (NPP) members into the Congress fold ahead of the ensuing Lok Sabha elections in Assam.

In a statement, Therie said: "The NPCC warmly welcomes into the Congress fold, former NPP team of Leaders and officials led by Er. Levi Rengma, former Dy. Speaker, Ex Candidates Shri Hopson Snock, and Dr. K. Mangyangpula Chang and former VP Shri GK Rengma."

"In the most crucial time when secularism and our culture, custom, and identity, are under threat, they have taken a conscious decision to strengthen and fight against the monstrous designs of BJP not for power or money, but to defend our people and to carry forward the Naga political negotiations for early settlement" read the communique.

"The NPCC appreciates their deep concern to salvage Nagaland and assures that we shall work together with responsibilities to strengthen the secular forces", he added.

Nagaland heads to the polls on 11 April. The lone Nagaland Lok Sabha seat as the no. 26 Aonglenden is up for grabs.
