Nagaland: Former NPP MP seeks delimitation for political justice Nagaland: Former NPP MP seeks delimitation for political justice

The former NPP MP Hayithung Bill Lotha has objected to halting of the delimitation process in Nagaland. He believes that exercise is necessary in order to ensure social and political justice.

“Delimitation in the state is not only a constitutional exercise but more importantly an exercise for social and political justice. Its nothing to do with tribalism. Failure to implement delimitation should not be taken as a zero-sum game; rather it is mutual destruction. It is clear that the current political structure in the state is built in such a way that only a few sections get the privilege of state power and continues to dominate,” he said.

He further added, “Any resolution by the state cabinet or even the Joint Legislators’ Forum (JLF) on delimitation is not going to solve the problem in the state.”

Saying that the cabinet meeting on March 2nd, 2020 was ‘nefarious’, Lotha said, “The cabinet should clarify why such crucial decision was taken without consulting the stakeholders. People have right to question the government.”

He further urged the Nagaland HTE & Tribal Affairs minister Temjen Imna to look beyond vested interests and work for the Naga people.

It may be mentioned that the Lotha Hoho and the Lotha Students’ Union had also vehemently condemned the action of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and Temjen lmna Along for recommending postponement of delimitation process in Nagaland.

Lotha Hoho felt that president of Nagaland BJP and the chief minister had recommended the postponement on their own without the consent of party legislators or party leaders. LH has taken the stand of the duo and Ram Madhav as anti-Naga and with vested tribalistic interest against the general Naga interest.

The hoho stated that it would oppose the unfair and tribalistic attitude of the duo and invited all right thinking Nagas to condemn their action. The hoho also affirmed support to its earlier stand on delimitation.
