DIMAPUR: The Nagaland government has announced a week long total lockdown for the state effective from today till May 21 in view of surge in COVID-19 cases.

Thejawelie said in an order that all activities and movement of person(s)/individual will be suspended during the lockdown period.

However, movement of vehicles carrying essential commodities/food items and medical supplies, including oxygen/oxygen cylinders and other medical equipment, will be permitted.

All healthcare facilities, pharmacies, hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, movement of healthcare workers, including those for animal healthcare, COVID-19 vaccination, COVID testing and medical emergencies, will be allowed.

The order said agriculture and allied activities and ongoing construction works will be allowed subject to the contractor/owner ensuring adherence to COVID-19 appropriate behaviours.

It said petrol pumps will remain open while ensuring there is no crowding.

Vegetable, fish/meat vendors, milk booths, bakeries, local grocery stores, including those that sell animal feed shops, for public purchase will be permitted to open from 6 am to 12 noon.

The public have been asked to shop their essential needs from within their colony only.

The order said hotels for lodging will be allowed to remain open with minimum staff while funeral services have been limited to not more than 20 persons.

All restaurants will remain closed for dine-ins, takeaways and home delivery, it added.

The order said the movement of all private and public transport vehicles will be suspended except for medical emergencies with occupancy of 50 per cent and COVID appropriate behaviour.

The movement of inter-state transit passengers will continue to be allowed as per provisions of the Revised Standard Procedure (SOP) for returnees and tranvellers entering Nagaland.

Appropriate action will be taken against any person/group of persons for violating the order, Thejawelie said.
