Govt to discuss RIIN, Nagaland NRC, modalities with tribal bodies on April 16

DIMAPUR: The home department of Nagaland government has decided to hold a consultative meeting with all tribal bodies and organisations on April 16 to discuss on the crucial Register of Indigenous Inhabitants of Nagaland (RIIN) issue, a register of indigenous inhabitants in the state, which is somewhat alike the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in neighbouring Assam, at the Nagaland Civil Secretariat, Kohima.

The state directorate of information and public relations said the meeting was called in pursuance of the cabinet decision on April 7, which will discuss the modalities and structure for achieving the goal of the RIIN.

The RIIN is somewhat alike the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in neighbouring Assam. The government's commission to head RIIN to study, examine, recommend and advise on issues related to RIIN is being headed by senior bureaucrat Bano Z Jamir.

The organisations that have been invited to attend the meeting include the presidents and one representative of the Angami Public Organisation, Ao Senden, Chakhesang Public Organisation, Chang Khulei Setsang, Kachari Tribal Council Nagaland, Karbi (Mikir) Union, Nagaland, Konyak Union, Khiamniungan Tribal Council, Kuki Inpi (Nagaland), Lotha Hoho, Nagaland Garo Tribal Council, Phom Peoples’ Council, Pochury Hoho, Rengma Hoho, Sumi Hoho, United Sangtam Likhum Pumji, Yimchunger Tribal Council and Zeliang People Organisation, along with the presidents and two representatives of Central Nagaland Tribes Council, Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation and Tenyimi Peoples’ Organisation have been requested to attend the meeting.

The meeting to begin at 10 am on April 16 and the chief minister, deputy chief minister, ministers and advisors, along with the chief secretary, commissioner, Nagaland and all the deputy commissioners will be present.
