A Haryana-based criminal called Vijay Farmana, who was wanted in 11 cases of murder, one rape, an attempt to murder case and several cases of carjacking, has finally fallen into the clutches of Delhi Police. It has been revealed that the criminal received a large sum of money to assassinate a top-level Nagaland politician after the Lok Sabha election.
Following the revelation, the Government has sounded a high alert to enhance security measures in the state of Nagaland.
NPF leader TR Zeliang took to Twitter to share his thoughts on the disturbing development. He wrote that it is "disturbing" to hear about the incident and added that "Investigating agencies should treat this as a high profile case and find out the person/s who paid for the hit job.”
Zeliang also requested the Nagaland Government and the Home Department to find out the "truth" behind the matter.
Meanwhile, state chief secretary Temjen Toy replied that a “team of senior police officers from Nagaland led by an IG is proceeding to Delhi”, while security measures are being beefed up.
Meanwhile, Nagaland deputy CM Y Patton, who is in charge of the home department, stated that after the news was confirmed at the police headquarters in Kohima, the police were directed to coordinate with its counterpart in Delhi to investigate into the details of the case.
As per reports, Farmana revealed that he along with his associates, Sharad Pandey and Kapil Chintania, visited Nagaland in April this year and accepted a contract to kill a ‘high-profile’ politician. However, he has not named the person who paid for the hit-job.
Police said that on Wednesday, they received a tip-off that Farmana, who carries a cash reward of ₹50,000 for his arrest by Delhi police and two cash rewards of ₹50,000 and ₹10,000 by Haryana police, had been spotted in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. Farmana was spotted near a food outlet and reportedly pulled out a pistol, but before he could pull the trigger, two officers overpowered him.
As reported by Hindustan Times, Rajiv Ranjan, additional commissioner of police (crime) stated that Farmana and his two associates had taken a contract to kill a top-level politician in Nagaland after the Lok Sabha elections which officially came to an end on Sunday, May 19. They had been given a sum of ₹80 lakh and a Ford Endeavour SUV for the hit job, police sources said.
