KOHIMA: Due to an increase in COVID-19 cases and positivity rate, the Nagaland government has declared the areas under Dimapur Municipal Council, Kohima Municipal Council, New Capital Complex Kohima, Chumukedima Town Council, and colonies/villages along the Dimapur-Chumukedima four-lane road closed with effect from 7 pm tomorrow till May 12.

The chief secretary and chairperson of the state executive committee of state disaster management authority issued an order in this regard.

According to the order, all places of mass meeting, including religious places, throughout the state must be restricted, except for solemnization of weddings with prior permission from the deputy commissioner.

All private passenger vehicles must be required to operate on a "odd-even" last digit of registration number system with a 50 per cent occupancy.

Food delivery services and grocery delivery services have also been banned.

Although public transportation vehicles (both public and private) such as buses, taxis, autos, two-wheeler taxis, and other similar vehicles shall be permitted to operate with a maximum occupancy of 50 per cent, with a maximum of 25 per cent of such vehicles in the area, for which the district task force of the respective district shall establish modalities.

Meanwhile, districts/blocks/areas that are not in a "containment zone" will continue to be protected by the April 29 guidelines, and they will be able to decide on restrictive measures in their own containment zones as appropriate.

Over and above, the respective district task forces (DTFs) may continue to enforce the 'night curfew' and other restrictions in their jurisdictions.

DTFs have also been advised to ensure that the controls are strictly enforced, including conducting checks at district entry points to avoid non-essential movement of people.

The order further mentioned that any individual or group of people who violate this order would be considered to have committed an offence under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
