Kohima, August 4, 2019:

Life in Nagaland capital Kohima has been disrupted by various landslides which have been triggered by incessant rains in the region.

As a result of the slides, life in the capital city has come to a screeching halt, and road blockades have affected travel to-and-from the capital city.

A Kohima resident told Inside Northeast, "I was supposed to go back to Kohima from Guwahati on Sunday, however, it is not possible now due to the blockades. It has caused traffic snarls. Moreover, there was a major landslide at around 1 am on Sunday near the SKV Petrol Pump in the city. Another was reported from KMC Dumping Ground. To say the least, it is fairly inconvenient..."

Not only this, a landslide that was triggered on August 2 destroyed an RCC building and injured 4 of a family at the Upper Bayavu area of Kohima. The injured included: Lohru (father), Asorou (mother), Asane (daughter), and Akhone (grand-daughter).

Moreover, a TATA Sumo Grande SUV vehicle which was parked on the roadside rolled down 30 feet and stopped near the demolished house.

Upon receiving information, District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) personnel visited the house to take stock of the situation.

Apart from Nagaland, other Northeast Indian states such as Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, have also been affected by landslides.
